Urwa Hocane Opened up about her struggle with depression

Pakistani Actress Urwa Hocane after recently coming into the limelight for all the wrong reasons has opened up about her struggle with depression in a post on Instagram.

“I decided to never announce it but I have suffered depression for a couple of years, the process of recovery is perpetual therefore I would NEVER ever be insensitive to its existence and causes. I find it hard to say more than this because of the extensive scrutiny on every word I’ll now utter but I will be brave,” the actor said. The Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 actor added, she emphasized on the right food as it has been an integral part of her healing process. “I emphasized on the “right food” because it has been an integral part of my healing process, helped me survive and recover of course along with the love and support of the people around me. The implication “Processed Food is the “only” cause of Depression” was not at all our intention but to bring attention to the vital role food plays.” She went on add, she was misunderstood despite her good intention. “I have never been great at explaining my feelings in words and I do realize that therefore I keep away from interviews as much as I can,” Hocane said.

I am grateful that many of you understood what we attempted to do/say . I only hope that what we are put through post-interview doesn’t discourage the people in position from speaking about what matters to the best of their knowledge in future. I am no expert on mental health but I will always try to offer as much as I know if it can even help a single soul. Lastly, let us be humans with our imperfections, flaws & mistakes. Don’t put us on pedestals so high that we are unable to touch each other’s hearts. Let’s try be more kind & more tolerant as a society. Love, Urwa

Earlier this week, the Hocane sisters came under fire when they appeared on a morning show and said depression was linked to eating unhealthy food.

In a video clip that went viral on social media, the sisters can be seen speaking about how one’s mental health is affected by ‘what food people put inside their system’. “We hear so many people say that they are suffering from depression, they have a mental disease, it’s all because of food. There’s no other reason,” they said.

The actors were heavily criticized heavily for their statement, with Mawra even posting a screenshot later and explaining her point again. “If you eat lots of processed meat, fried food, refined cereals, candies, pastries, and high fats products, you are most likely to be anxious and depressed,” the post stated.
