WWE Raw Results: News And Notes After Brock Lesnar Mauls Seth Rollins Yet Again

WWE Raw featured the crowning of multiple new champions as R-Truth regained the 24/7 Championship from Mike Kanellis—who defeated wife Maria during an OBGYN appointment—while Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross became the Women’s tag team champions.

For the second straight week, Brock Lesnar attacked a hobbled Seth Rollins who later guaranteed a victory at SummerSlam. Raw went off the air with the expected-but-still-satisfying announcement that Goldberg would be returning to face Dolph Ziggler.

Raw saw a big drop from Raw Reunion as viewership was the lowest number in all of July.

Opening Segment Featuring Samoa Joe

On a night where WWE was set to honor the legacy of Harley Race, Samoa Joe was the perfect person to kick off Raw. As a legit tough guy who permeates fear and intimidation from his pores, Joe’s the last of a dying breed that Harley Race so strongly represented.

Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair def. Natalya and Trish Stratus

About 10 of the first 13 minutes of Raw was dedicated to entrances. It was still better than the opening segment of most Raws.

Andrade def. Rey Mysterio

The WWE cameras are just as invested in Zelina Vega’s reaction to this match as they are in the match itself, but somehow it’s not overkill. In fact, there should be a Zelina reaction camera on the bottom of the screen.

Watching Rey Mysterio and Andrade work their cajones off on Raw in Pittsburgh is like watching somebody drive a Rolls Royce in a bumper car race.

Mike Kanellis def. Maria Kanellis for WWE 24/7 Championship, Loses to R-Truth

WWE was very bold to go to commercial by teasing an OBGYN appointment, but in this generation of wrestling—not to mention the ironic love affair with the 24/7 Championship—it kind of made sense.

Mike Kanellis defeating his wife for the WWE 24/7 Championship will only lead to more embarrassing segments, and I’m not even talking about

Brock Lesnar Destroys Seth Rollins

So Seth Rollins used a chair to limp around while on his way to fight Brock Lesnar and everybody backstage treated him like they treat his Twitter account and acted like they were helpless to stop him?

Seth Rollins’ promo after getting destroyed by Brock Lesnar was one of his best in years. I’m so sorry it had to be in Pittsburgh, which has one of the more apathetic fanbases in all of WWE despite being a top market.

The Viking Raiders def. Local Competitors

I log the most and least-viewed YouTube videos each week on Raw as part of my weekly analysis of the show, and I believe the Viking Raiders have a five-week streak of least-viewed video.

The Viking Raiders’ entire existence on Raw can be summed up by this sentence spoken by Corey Graces during their match: “A hush has just fallen over the PPG Paints Arena.”

Drew McIntyre and Cedric Alexander Battle to a No Contest

This half-asleep arena woke the F up for Bray Wyatt’s latest attack, which had to be upsetting to hometown hero Kurt Angle.

Will Bray Wyatt’s entire match against Finn Balor take place under strobe lighting?

Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson and AJ Styles def. The New Day and Ricochet

#TheOC is in the building. #Raw

If Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson had never competed in Japan, Michael Cole would have nothing to talk about during their matches.

Hearing these fans chant “Kofi” knowing Kofi Kingston wasn’t in Pittsburgh was heartbreaking to watch.

So many belts in this match.

Samoa Joe Calls out Roman Reigns

Samoa Joe calling Roman Reigns “uce,” made me realize “uce” is a babyface word.

Samoa Joe said the reason these fans are sitting on their hands is that Roman Reigns is too much of a coward to apologize. I object. I think they’re sitting on their hands because they’re in Pittsburgh and hand-sitting is literally the only form of entertainment in that town.

If Samoa Joe turned babyface by screaming “Ay! Get a medic!” in a parking lot, I’m totally here for it.

Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross def. The Kabuki Warriors, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville and The IIconics—WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships

How many Raw viewers were pleasantly surprised to see Asuka after assuming she had signed with AEWmonths ago.

What was especially sad about this match was the beginning, when I realized just about every women’s tag team in WWE was standing in the ring.

The second The IIconics were eliminated, this place went crazy—not only because it meant they were guaranteed a title change, but because The IIconics are no longer the tag team champions.

I forgot how great of a worker Asuka was. Like, I literally forgot.

WWE missed out on shooting the “Alexa Bliss makeover of Nikki Cross” segments that would have been comedy gold.

I hate to see The Kabuki Warriors lose, but I love to see Nikki Cross and Alexa Bliss win.

The Miz and Dolph Ziggler Sign Contract for SummerSlam with Special Guest Shawn Michaels—Goldberg vs. Dolph Ziggler Announced

Dolph Ziggler has been a WWE Superstar for over a decade and he still doesn’t know how to wear a suit.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Goldberg might be the best match on the entire card, but teasing Shawn Michaels only to reveal Goldberg was almost cruel. Almost.
